HOW DO WE OPERATE
Administration of the League is on two tiers comprising The Management Committee who are responsible for the day to day running of the League [the Management Committee meets two or three times a month during the season] and the League Council which is made up of the Management Committee and the secretaries of member clubs. The League Council meets once a month during the season and your secretary should attend and get involved.
HOW MUCH FOOTBALL WILL YOU GET
The League is divided into five divisions. Ten cup competitions are organised. In addition to the divisional championships each team takes part in four cup competitions which are the challenge cup, divisional cup, league cup and supplementary cup. It is our intention to give you football every Sunday from September to May.
WHERE WILL YOU PLAY
All our fixtures are played within the London Borough of Enfield. The League block books Enfield pitches and allocates them to member clubs. This system is of advantage to the League as we are able to re-arrange fixtures during the season as may become necessary. Clubs benefit by paying monthly in arrears for pitches.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST YOU
Playing football is not cheap and you should be aware of this before you start. Costs fall into several categories.
Firstly to get started you will need to buy one full kit (and also a second strip usually a change of shirts for when colours clash with the opposition), one goal net, 4 corner flags, footballs including a good quality match ball and a first aid kit.
Each week you will need to get your kit washed and you may need to replace torn shirts or lost items of kit. Your club may organise training sessions or hire a gym. All these costs are outside our jurisdiction.
Referees will cost you £15.00 a week payable on match days.Pitch fees are at present £48.00 which is shared between both clubs playing on the day.
League fees consist of the entrance fees payable each season currently £150.00 and in addition new clubs pay a once only good faith fee of £80.00 which is refunded when the club leaves the League with its affairs in good order.
F.A. costs consist of an affiliation fee to the London Football Association currently £50.00 per season which includes the cost of one copy of the L.F.A. handbook and two types of insurance. Increasingly these days we find people ready to seek compensation for injuries to themselves or their property. Public liability insurance and compulsory accident insurance are currently £150.00 a season. The London Football Association arranges block insurance for our clubs and this is payable at the start of the season.
All these sums are subject to amendment at the Annual General Meeting. Then there are the optional costs which include fines for various offences as listed in the handbook which are payable to the League and discipline costs for player or club misconduct which are payable to the F.A. It is up to clubs and players whether they wish to incur either of these.
WHAT ABOUT FINANCE
Clubs are expected to hold a bank account in the club’s name and are advised to have at least 2 signatures on cheques. All payments to the league are made by cheque. Clubs are invoiced every month for pitches used and any fines due. We expect prompt payment and clubs in default risk suspension.
How you fund your club is up to you. Some clubs have sponsorships which may fund the purchasing of kit and equipment and in some cases all running costs as well. However we do advise that even if everything is paid for by a sponsor that players make contributions themselves in the form of signing on fees or weekly subscriptions. This tends to make players more loyal to a club and makes them more interested in club affairs. As a guideline weekly subs should be at least £ 5.00 and signing on fees at least £ 20.00.
Clubs are expected to maintain full accounts of their finances and may be asked to present these to the League at any time.
HOW DO WE KEEP IN TOUCH
A weekly circular showing results, fixtures, fines, player suspensions and things like that is issued weekly during the season. Then there is the web site edmontonsundayfootball.com which contains tables, fixtures, results, news and much more. Additionally the League handbook showing rules, clubs in membership, fixtures and all you want to know. It is published at the beginning of each season and all clubs must purchase a minimum if 16 copies.
HOW DO YOU REGISTER YOUR PLAYERS
All players are required to complete a registration form which has to be accepted by the League Registration Secretary before they are allowed to take part in a League fixture. Registration photo ID cards are issued for each player which are held by the Club Secretary and must be available for inspection on Sunday’s at matches.
WHAT ABOUT DISCIPLINE
The London Football association maintains its own players discipline scheme. All reports from referees go to them and players are awarded penalties relevant to the offence as set out in the L.F.A. handbook issued each season. The League however maintains discipline with regards to all other matters. The League maintains high standards of discipline and expects all clubs to do the same.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ THE LEAGUE RULES
Almost every question you may wish to ask has an answer in the rule book, it is important that all your club members have knowledge of the rules. You will also find them on the web site.
